Product Description

Quintana Roo believes that every triathlete should attack the bike segment with every possible advantage, regardless of fitness, shape, and pocketbook. The PRthree keeps the geometry of the PRsix superbike and pro-level PRfive  and retains most of the wind-cheating qualities of those bikes, but in a place where everyone can access it.

If you just glanced at the Three, you might easily confuse it with the five. The shapes are almost the same. That’s for good reason. They work. The boat tail profiles, particularly in the downtube, yield super-slippery aerodynamics, but reduce weight and improve ride quality compared to traditional airfoils. Essentially, they add a little vertical compliance while dramatically-improving torsional stiffness. They also wrap the downtube around the front tire as far as they can without adding weight. By filling in the space between the wheel and frame, they allow the wind to transition from the rim to the downtube without rejoining behind the wheel.

QR goes one step further than most. They shift the downtube a bit to the right to redirect air passing around the downtube to the left. This moves airflow away from the aerodynamically “dirty” drivetrain to the cleaner, smoother non-drive side.

The seat tube is also a boat-tail, and wraps around the rear wheel. And to further improve air flow, a QBox has been designed to form the trailing edge behind the seat tube. This removable storage container improves aerodynamics on its own, but as it also doubles as a place for a tube, tools, and inflator, it also cleans up the space behind your saddle. There’s even a blinky-light built in.

The top tube, seat stays and chain stays all are designed with vertical compliance in mind. When you’re out in the extensions, bumps can really rattle your spine. The give these tubes provide, along with room for 25mm tires, make rough roads much less punishing.

While bikes are designed in wind tunnels, racers are almost always out on the road. And this ride is built for the real world. That’s why you’ll find mounts on the downtube, seat tube, and top tube. There’s plenty of room for bottles and boxes

More real world: they also built the bike to both fit and ride well. That’s why you’ll find the sliding rail seat clamp atop the seat post, giving you room to adjust the saddle from a virtual 77-degree angle to an 83-degree angle relative to the bottom bracket. To maximize stability without the bike feeling sluggish, they provide a generous 7.35cm bottom bracket drop, as well as pushing the front-center dimensions and trail out a bit longer than most of their competition. You don’t have to focus on keeping the bike in a straight line, but when you want to turn, the bike happily responds.

Traveling with the bike is another thing that triathletes do in the real world. This bike can be assembled and disassembled with two hex-head keys, the 4mm and the 5mm. While stock bikes currently come with mechanical shifting, the internal routing can be reconfigured to run electronic shifting, with the battery going in the seat tube. QR even goes so far as to supply the bike with both vertical and horizontal dropouts. Vertical are easier for getting wheels in and out, but horizontal allow for you to snug the tire behind the seat tube for improved aerodynamics.

Quintana Roo currently offers two builds on the Three. The big difference are wheels. One build comes with aluminum-rimmed wheels that are more focused on training, while the other comes with carbon-rimmed wheels that are more focused on racing.

The Quintana Roo PRthree shows that a super fast tri bike is no sweat.
