Product Description

The Orca has long been the center of the Orbea road bike family. This lightweight carbon road bike can do it all from flying up tough climbs to sprinting on flats and whipping around corners. The Orca M40 is the most affordable build Orbea offers on their cornerstone road bike, equipped with a mechanical Shimano Tiagra groupset. The Orca is designed for the hard-working rider who is ready to cranks watts into their drivetrain for miles on end. High-speed rigidity works with a lightweight frame while it remains aerodynamic to avoid wasting a single watt of pedaling power. Manufactured for professionals and hardcore hobby riders alike, the Orbea Orca is simply made to go fast.

The frame of the Orca M40 is made with OME carbon which is a slightly lower grade than OMR carbon but is still very lightweight at a lower price. To make the frame, carbon sheets are laser cut and put together. This is a long painstaking process but paying such attention to precision minimizes the use of excess material or overlap for the lowest possible weight. The OME carbon is known for its strength and stiffness at all angles. This is handled by the lower spine of the frame. The headtube, downtube, and chainstays are resistant to twisting, transmitting the most possible power to the rear wheel. With a ton of flex resistance at the bottom of the frame and a large cross-section, the Orca frame translates each watt into instantaneous power.

Orbea prioritizes a racing position geometry when it comes to the Orca. Over 100 years have gone into designing racing bikes to strike the perfect balance of responsiveness and stability. The rider accounts for a massive amount of the aero drag compared to the bike so an aero riding position is vital in a race bike. The aggressive racing position associated with the Orca maximizes the aerodynamics and efficiency of the rider. The angles and dimensions of the Orca are not the same across the board. They vary among sizes to assure a proper fit. A bike that fits its rider well will lead to more power on the road with each pedal stroke along with precise and intuitive handling.

Excellent handling and comfort come along with the lightweight nature and high speed of the Orca. Efficient control and traction combat the external forces that come with high speed cornering and bumpy rides. A natural flex pattern is created by the carbon layup with minimal top tube and seatstay bulk. This gives riders a dynamic and smooth ride without losing any losing any traction or rigidity needed for race-level performance. The Orbea Orca feels dynamic and smooth, even on the toughest roads.

On the front of the Orbea Orca frame, you will find their signature Freeflow Fork. When riding at high speeds on the road, a high-pressure drag zone builds up in the fork due to spoke rotation and wide wheels or tires against the wind as the wheel spins. The legs of the fork are spread away from this turbulent area to allow wind to pass through and reduce the pressure. This shape maintains top aerodynamics thanks to less chaotic aerodynamics. This version of the Orca used rim brakes for great stopping power at a lower price and lighter weight. Use the MyO option to customize the colors and components on your frame for a truly customized feel. The 2020 Orbea Orca M40 is an affordable option for the rider who wants lightweight performance on the road.
