Product Description

Simple is better with cyclocross. The Basso Fastcross Disc Frameset sports grey paint to signal that it is a no-nonsense bike with a simple purpose. That is to tackle cyclocross courses fast and easily.

The frame utilizes a fairly traditional ‘cross geometry. Steep seat angle paired with a slack head angle married to a higher bottom bracket and short head tube ticks off all the ‘cross features. The steep seat is for an aggressive saddle position, with a short top tube, low, parallel top tube for ample clearance and easy shouldering, and the short head tube allows for bars to be a bit higher than on your road bike, but not too high.

The bike has a super-stiff front end for precise and predictable steering. The fork legs are spread wide and are topped by a 1 1/8” to 1 ½” tapered steerer. The head tube has been internally reinforced and the juncture with the down and top tubes is stout as well. The downtube is flattish, getting wider and shallower as it travels to the bottom bracket and the top tube tapers as it travels front to back. This helps with vertical compliance, as does the 27.2mm seat post diameter (post not included) and the shaped, skinny stays.

Basso utilizes two different grades of carbon fiber, three types of cloth, and three different ply orientations. They work with unidirectional Torayca TR50 and MR60, blending high and intermediate modulus plies to result in a frameset that is stiff and light and durable.

The bottom bracket standard is BB86. This helps make the frame as wide as possible at the bottom bracket, which is a plus for maximizing lateral rigidity and tire clearance. While this is nominally the Shimano standard, it works with most other cranks as well. In all cases, you’ll need bearings and/or adapters for whatever crank you choose.

There’s clearance for tires up to 35mm in width. That’s a bit greater than the UCI limit of 33mm and provides you options for taking the Fastcross on rougher terrain. Along with the tire clearance, the frame is set up for rotor disc brakes. The mounting is the new flat-mount standard, and is set up for 140-160mm rotors. To simplify mounting, increase rigidity, and minimize weight, thru-axles are deployed, 100x15mm in front, 142x12mm in back.

As 1x systems are gaining popularity, Basso skips mounting a front derailleur hanger, leaving it bare for 1x, and round if you want to install a traditional clamped front derailleur.

Cables run internally through the frame to keep them clean and smooth. Electronic or mechanical can be routed. If you go electronic, the wired battery can go inside the seat post. The front brake cable/hose runs externally.

The frame comes with cable stops and plugs, headset, and seat clamp.

The Basso Fastcross makes quick work of even the heaviest, sloggiest ‘cross courses.
