Product Description

Pinarello had already designed the K8-S for the cobbled classics. Then, they realized setting it up with disc brakes gave their flagship squad, Team Sky, an extra option. Thus the Pinarello Dogma K8-S Disk was born.

The name bears a little explanation. Dogma: top-of-the-line frame. K: Kobh, cobblestone. 8: from F8, the same iteration. S: shock.

From the name, we’ll put it together for you. It has the basic design of the Dogma F8 in terms of aero shaping, carbon lay-up, and geometry. It is tweaked with a slightly higher head tube, fork rake, and chainstay length to make this bike more oriented toward the cobbled classics as well as endurance rides, Gran Fondos, and even gravel roads. And it has a rear shock to smooth out the rear end.

Yes. This bike has an actual shock. Dogma Suspension System 1.0 (DSS1.0):  an adjustable, elastomer rear shock. It provides 10mm of travel. It sits between the seatstays and the seat tube. Thanks to their manipulation of carbon-fiber, there is no pivot on the chainstays. Pivots add weight, complexity, and often reduce torsional rigidity. These stays are flattened in the vertical plane to maximize vertical flex; the bonus is how they nearly eliminate energy sapping lateral flex. Pinarello also has improved the RAD mounting for the rear brake caliper, both lightening the connection and improving flex characteristics for the stay itself.

Keeping the lateral rigidity high as well as keeping things secure and simple are thru-axles, both front and rear. 12x100mm in front and 12x142mm in back. More secure mounting, potentially faster wheel changes. The brake mounts are designed for rotors up to 160mm in diameter. The fork has a flat-mount system for the front caliper. The rear triangle has Pinarello’s RAD System for mounting the rear brake caliper. It’s a lightweight, secure means to fix the caliper to the stays without bulking the chainstay. By keeping the stay thinner, the ride is closer to that of a bike with conventional rim brakes. The brakes also allow for slightly bigger tires. Pinarello recommends a maximum tire width of 28mm, though, depending on the tire and rim combo you choose, you could probably fit most 30mm tires as well. But as there’s no rigid standard of measure, Pinarello can make no guarantee.

It might be hard to tell that this bike is the rough road rig of the Pinarello line. That’s a result of borrowing many of the design features of the F8. The K8-S has the aero head tube, the FlatBack tube profiles, the aero seat post, the same bowed fork legs. So much is the same, even the same Torayca T1100 1K carbon is employed, that you might be wondering if it’s the same frame. It isn’t.

That written, the F8 influence is beyond the geometry. Aerodynamics are important everywhere, save steep climbs. Even at Paris-Roubaix, about 80% of the race is on smooth roads. For pro riders, saving energy on the way to the stones, and having the aero for after the stones is no small deal. It has the potential to be a game-changer. For everyone else, the aero gains accrue as you ride, the longer you ride, the more it makes a difference. And as this bike is still WorldTour light, you’ve got an edge climbing as well as everywhere else.

As with most Pinarello’s, this frame comes with an aero carbon-fiber seatpost. It’s 300mm long and can house an electronic-shifting battery. The bottom bracket is Italian-threaded. The headset is included, internal, and a tapered 1 1/8” to 1 1/2”. Cable routing is internal. They also run their 3XAir cage bolt system on the K8-S. Use the lower two for better aerodynamics and weight distribution, the upper two for convenience. Cable routing is internal, regardless of whether you run mechanical or electronic or hydraulic.

The Dogma K8-S Disk shows that when Pinarello designers stop at nothing, you can stop at everything regardless of the terrain. And you can go like nobody’s business.
