Product Description

As a triathlete, you may have lamented the fact that the cycling industry designers did not always take into consideration some of your more practical needs. Nowhere would this disconnect be more immediately felt than the saddle designs. With the Selle Italia Iron Tekno Flow Saddle, however, you will be convinced that it has been designed by folks who really have actually sat and even raced on a tri bike before.

For one thing, Selle Italia has finally created a tri-specific saddle that drops right down to the 200 gram mark. They have done this by sparing no expense in terms of the shell construction. Made from 100% carbon and strategically covered in supportive padding and Fibratek, the Iron Tekno Flow offers a super-light perch that has definitely paid attention to keeping you comfortable. And that is the material point since there are few positions potentially more uncomfortable than that which you need to adopt when riding with aero bars. To accommodate the extra pressure at your perineum, the saddle uses a split-nose design with a rubbery net insert in between to allow the airflow required to help dry out your chamois pad after coming from the swimming portion of the race. The nose of the Tekno Flow is also narrowly tapered so that you will have more breathing room for your pedal pumping thighs.

You’ll also notice that the saddle’s carbon shell has a flaring at the rear that has been put there to act as an aerodynamic enhancement to prevent the development of turbulence behind the rider’s body. For those of you who do use rear hydration systems, be aware that you’ll want to double-check the adjustability of the system you use. If the saddle mount is really short, then it might not accommodate the tail of the saddle. That upward aero curve at the rear of the saddle also serves the purpose of providing extra support to your backside when in the TT position. When you are racing over rougher chip and seal roads, the oblong 7x9mm seat rails will help to provide a certain dampening to the ride while working to keep the weight down. Most importantly, they offer a durable interface with the seat post since they are made from what Selle Italia calls CarboKeramic. If you’ve read cautionary tales about buying oval railed saddles, never fear since anything vertical clamping will work with a 7x9 rail, and in any case, nearly every manufacturer of seatposts produces an adapter for carbon rails.

Taking into account that not all bums are alike, Selle Italia has taken the trouble to fashion the Iron Tekno Flow Saddle in two sizes, one small and one large, where the small is 135mm wide, while the large adds another 10mm in width to measure 145mm. So no matter where on the sit bone width scale you fall, you should be able to find an Iron Tekno Flow to suit you.

The Selle Italia Iron Tekno Flow Saddle weighs just 205 grams in a small and 210 grams in the large. It is truly the ultimate marriage of high-end performance and quality comfort.
